Verge Compo Entry

As some of you know, Code, Rockstar and I have been working for around a week on a compo for the Verge’s community “How about M!” competition. The game we submitted was titled Wind – With a Capital M. You can download it yourself and try it out at the link at the bottom of this post. You can also check all the competitors’ submissions here.

This game was very satisfying to do and I am satisfied of how it came out. I would love to hear what you think, good or bad, about this game. Enjoy!

Wandering

So I am back from a hectic semester. Although I was not posting much I did play around with some art. Here is some of what I did.

One thing I found, is how much more enjoyable it is to make maps outside Maped and import them as pictures. I think it takes out the hardship of making tiles that “tile” correctly. The last two image were done in such a way.  The problem with such a technique is the size of the map files it creates.  Also obstructions in Maped can not be made by importing images and making them into a new layer. Overall though, I prefer this technique for making maps.

As for what I plan to do from now on, well I don’t know honestly. I am still in Gruedorf in spirit but I don’t really have a dedicated project. I still want to finish a game within 6-10 months. However most project out there are of a much larger scope. I will still help other projects with my art but I personally want to work on a game that is:

  • Small scale
  • Creative
  • Enjoyable

So if you are a coder, artist or musician who is interested, drop me a line and we can talk.

Grass

It is late and I am tired. Another hectic school week. Again I didn’t want to go empty handed for this tutorial game project. I think it is important I keep up my work as this is not any old project. This could really help the verge community. So I did some grass. I was fairly happy with it, until I downloaded the last beta of Kildorf’s game. Seriously, the entire tileset is looking nice. Happy Kildorf dumped the 640×480 resolution. I would comment about it on his site, but too tired… Going to sleep.

Oh, forgot, I didn’t know how to best make this so it tiles well. I did square but did not try to tile them. Any suggestion is cool by me.

Half an Hour Blast

Midterms have appeared as well as mid semester projects. I am supposed to be studying right now, but I really didn’t want to come out without anything this week, so I decided to take care of the sand tile.

I haven’t had the time to compare the sand tile to the ground tiles to see if the lightness is comparable. So I don’t know if they can fit together(Balor, my external HD is not with me and contains all my files). Though a simple change in the darkness of the tiles can fix that. I will probably do a tweak of it when I have time.

On another note, Thanatos has been built and is in good working condition. For the curious Thanatos is the new system I built, its name was inspired from the GPU card. I have still to install basic components like a word processor and graphic program. This is the first truly gaming capable system I have ever had and the first system I built. I am quite proud of my achievement.

Finally, when I have time I will add a special link to the right for glambourine’s tutorial game so that the link doesn’t get lost in the news pages.

Birth of a God

No update this week. Sorry I am busy building Thanatos.
